Why Are My Amazon Sales Low Even Though My Product Is Good?

Why are my Amazon sales low?
Short answer

Low Amazon sales come from one of two problems. Either not enough shoppers see your product (a traffic problem), or shoppers see it but do not buy (a conversion problem). Open your Business Reports in Seller Central and look at Sessions and Unit Session Percentage. Low sessions means fix visibility first. Good sessions but low Unit Session Percentage means fix the listing, price, or reviews first.

Step 1: Find out which problem you have

Many brands try to fix everything at once. That wastes time and money. Start with two numbers from your Seller Central account. Go to Reports, then Business Reports, then Detail Page Sales and Traffic.

  • Sessions: how many visits your product page gets.
  • Unit Session Percentage: out of those visits, how many ended in a purchase.

Why start with conversion when both are low? Paid traffic sent to a weak page wastes ad money.

If shoppers cannot find you

  • Missing keywords. Shoppers search with certain words. If those words are not in your title and bullet points, Amazon has little reason to show you.
  • No ads, or weak ads. A new listing has no sales history. Most new products need some advertising to get the first sales. Ads bring results only if the page can convert.
  • Out of stock or no Buy Box. No Buy Box means very few sales, even with good traffic. Check your stock and your price against other sellers.
  • Suppressed listing. Amazon can hide a listing when something is wrong, such as missing information. Check the “Fix Your Products” area in Seller Central.
  • Wrong category. The right category helps shoppers and Amazon understand your product.

If shoppers see you but do not buy

  • Images. Amazon needs the main image on a pure white background. Use the other image slots well: size, how to use it, key benefits, and a lifestyle photo. Most categories allow up to 9 images.
  • Price. Shoppers compare. If you cost much more than similar products and give no clear reason, many leave.
  • Reviews. A low star rating or very few reviews makes shoppers nervous. Never pay for reviews or trade for them. Amazon bans this.
  • Title and bullets. Say what the product is, who it is for, and why it is better. Use short, clear sentences.
  • A+ Content. With Brand Registry you can add images and text below the bullets. Good A+ Content helps shoppers decide.
  • Delivery speed. Shoppers often prefer products that arrive fast, such as Prime delivery.

The 6-point checklist

CheckAsk yourself
1. TitleDoes it have the main search words and say clearly what the product is?
2. ImagesIs the main image white and sharp? Do the other images show benefits and use?
3. PriceIs it fair next to the top 5 competitors?
4. ReviewsIs my rating close to my competitors’? Do I have enough reviews?
5. AdsDo I run ads on the words shoppers really search?
6. Stock and Buy BoxAm I in stock and winning the Buy Box?

Compare with a competitor

Pick the top product in your category. Put its page next to yours. Look at the images, price, star rating, and number of reviews. Tools like Keepa show a product’s price and sales rank history, so you can see when a competitor changed its price or when its sales rose. If the gap is large, the cause is often on the page.

FAQ

Why are my Amazon sales low?

It is usually a traffic problem (not enough shoppers see you) or a conversion problem (shoppers see you but do not buy). Check Sessions and Unit Session Percentage in your Business Reports to see which one it is.

Do I need ads to sell on Amazon?

Most new products need some ads to get their first sales, because a new listing has no sales history. Ads help only when the page is ready to convert, so fix your images, price, and text first.

How many images should my Amazon listing have?

Use as many slots as you can. Most categories allow up to 9 images. The main image must be on a pure white background. Use the others for benefits, size, use, and lifestyle.

What is a good Amazon conversion rate?

It changes by category and price, so there is no one number. Compare your Unit Session Percentage with similar products and with your own results over time.

Why did my sales suddenly drop?

Common causes are a lost Buy Box, a stock-out, a price change by competitors, a suppressed listing, or new negative reviews. Check these first.
